Vloggers of the world must have dropped their iPhones and spilled frappuccinos when they saw the commercial for DJI Osmo Pocket. To me, it came unexpected and all I can remember is that it knocked me out of $349. Including tax.
Neither am I a compulsive spender nor am I after the latest gadgets but while my eyes were focusing on that tiny mechanically stabilized camera strapped to a dog, my hand reached for the wallet (yes, my perfect wallet).
The next morning a mailman knocked on the door.
The beautiful day was about to get even better. The occasion was too good not to be burnt forever into film, and the shaded living room was simply not cutting it. This is why I headed to magnificent Point Vincente in Rancho Palos Verdes to shoot the DJI Osmo Pocket unboxing (here, Google crawler, have a treat!). Things didn’t go smoothly and I ended up taking my first Osmo Pocket footage the following day in Redondo Beach.
To milk some more value out of it, I’ve also made a comparison video of Osmo Pocket vs Osmo Mobile 2, putting stabilization of the two DJI gimbals to test. And finally, to test performance of Osmo Pocket in low light, I took it for a walk at magical Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights Extravaganza in Torrance.
So get yourself comfortable and enjoy the show.
P.S. Just for your info, 2 weeks after I published the video, I upgraded to Samsung S8 with USB type C. However, my opinion on the issues I’m ranting about in the video hasn’t changed. Boo!
