Three Famous Words

Johnny Cash art and black acoustic guitar

Visiting my family in Belarus, I picked up my old acoustic guitar. Started strumming something. Just for fun. A phrase came up in my mind, which sparked a chain reaction. A character was born from the ether, inspired by Rita and Nancy from Groundhog Day the Musical by incredible Tim Minchin.

For two days I’ve been thinking about it and this evening I finally put the pen down. God, it feels so good to create something! Only 4 basic chords, but the feeling of accomplishment is unbelievably satisfying. And it’s Friday 13th.

THREE FAMOUS WORDS

Verse 1

The three famous words
That’s all you’ve ever dreamt to hear
To feel the butterflies you’ve always seen on the silver screen

The nicest dress you’ve got is not short enough, heels long enough
And every time you check your phone
Unanswered calls are from your mom

Pre-chorus 1

All friends hold hands
Cuddle, kiss and dance
You sneak out to the bathroom stall
And bang your head against the wall

Chorus 1

I’m so sick, I’m so sick
Of being alone in this world
I’m so sick, I’m so sick
Of being alone

Verse 2

The three famous words
You’ve heard so many times before
But in-between the lines you read
Intentions just to get between your legs

Date after date gone wrong
You say you’re done, you can’t believe
You have been so dumb to give a shot
Even to your nana’s friend’s grandson

Pre-chorus 2

Bouquets of lies and bottles of some scheise
They give you feels so good
To smash it against the wall

Chorus 2

I’m so sick, I’m so sick
I want to be alone in this world
I’m so sick, I’m so sick
I just want to be alone, I just want to be alone

Bridge

Statistically you know there’s someone who’d make you a breakfast after you hook up
Who’d be tough, not play tough
And catch the next flight to backpack with you through Europe
Or stay at home, microwave a pizza and binge-watch the Office
How in the world both of your hearts will ever collide if you know he’s

Outro / Chorus 3

He is so sick, he is so sick
He wants to be alone in the world

He is so sick, he is so sick
He wants to be alone in the world

She is so sick, he is so sick
Of being alone in this world

They are so sick, you are so sick
We just want to be alone, No one wants to be alone
