The Mean Cookie: scratching that creative itch

The Mean Cookie - fortune cookie sayings gone bad
Feel happy? Lucky? Blessed? You had a great year or even won a million in a lottery?
The higher you fly, the harder you fall. Don’t let life bring you down.
The MEAN COOKIE is your daily vaccine of ugly truth to keep your feet on the ground.

It all started at a Chinese restaurant.

My wife and I were having a good time over a dinner. Two fortune cookies were lying on the table, patiently waiting for their turn.

Soon, we started guessing what was inside of the treats. It didn’t take long for our dark senses of humor to take over and make up a story of a fortune cookie sweat shop employee fed up with his job.

As you might guess, what we actually found in our cookies was far from what we had hoped for.

That evening, chilling on a couch and watching a movie, I took my Micron pen and a pad to doodle. The ideas of the misfortune cookies stuck in my head.

So I drew one.

While dotting the shadows of the You Suck fortune cookie, a few dozens of others came to my mind. And when the silly little drawing was finished, I was still hungry for more…

“Why not draw a short series?” I thought to myself.

So I drew one.

After I finished the thirteenth mean fortune cookie illustration and held the stack of thirteen drawings in my hands, I finally felt like putting my pen away.

The only thing left to do was to grab a couple of frames at a local art shop and do some photography.

And that’s how finding determination to scratch that creative itch can turn a random glimpse of creativity into something real.
